The High Atlas: Where Africa Touches the Sky
The Tizi n'Tichka pass, at 2,260 meters, is one of the great driving experiences in North Africa. The road was built by the French Foreign Legion in the 1930s, and it still feels like it. On the far side, the landscape transforms — the green valleys of the north give way to the red earth of the pre-Sahara, and the kasbahs begin to appear like sand-colored fortresses on every ridge.

The Road of a Thousand Kasbahs
South of the Atlas, the N10 highway follows the old caravan route through the Dadès and Todra gorges. The gorges themselves are cathedral-like — vertical walls of pink and ochre limestone rising 300 meters on either side. The Berber villages at their base have changed very little in centuries.
The Sahara: Silence as Luxury
The Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga are the gateway to the Sahara experience. The best luxury camps — Merzouga Luxury Desert Camp or the ultra-private Nkob Desert Retreat — position you far enough from the tourist circuit that the silence is absolute. At night, without light pollution, the Milky Way is not a suggestion but a physical presence overhead.
The camel trek at sunset is not optional — it is the defining moment of the circuit. The light on the dunes shifts from gold to copper to violet in the space of forty-five minutes, and the only sound is the soft rhythm of hooves on sand.
